Wärtsilä Caribbean Inc. and Jamaica Energy Partners sign service supply agreement

Wärtsilä Caribbean Inc. and Jamaica Energy Partners (JEP) have entered into a 5-year supply agreement for Wärtsilä to provide spare parts, field service, and workshop services to the generating sets installed on the Doctor Bird I and Doctor Bird II power stations. The power stations are installed onboard floating barges at Old Harbour Bay, St. Catherine, about 40 kilometres west of Kingston. They are owned and operated by Jamaica Energy Partners, and together contain 11 Wärtsilä engines with a total output of 139 MW, providing electricity for the Island of Jamaica. The agreement will ensure that the two power stations are maintained at maximum efficiency and reliability.

Jamaica Energy Partners is the largest of the three independent power providers operating on the island of Jamaica, and is currently installing a third power station in West Kingston powered by Wärtsilä engines.

“Jamaica Energy Partners is once again proud to collaborate with Wärtsilä to provide energy to the people of Jamaica in the most cost efficient, reliable manner, and with the highest standard of service. JEP currently provides 124 MW to the national grid- out of the total 139 MW capacity- powered by Wärtsilä engine technology, and will soon be adding an additional 66 MW to the national grid utilizing the most modern and environmentally friendly technology,” says Wayne McKenzie, General Manager, Jamaica Energy Partners.

“This agreement is an extension of the long standing relationship that JEP and Wärtsilä Caribbean have had since 2000, and shows the commitment of both parties to provide the best possible energy market services in Jamaica,” says Marc Tarbox, General Manager, Services of Wärtsilä Caribbean.
